How can two driven wheels turn at different speeds?
Fit the components, then test the mechanism.
On a curve, the outer wheel travels farther. The bevel spider allows different axle speeds while their average remains the carrier speed. Locking the axle removes that freedom and creates a path-length mismatch.
Steady no-slip turn, equal wheel radii, ideal open differential. Kinematics only, no traction or limited-slip model.
Take a curve with zero wheel-speed mismatch.
Take a curve without wheel-speed mismatch.
