How does a message find another way?
No working path: connect an alternate route through the lower router.
A packet travels along connected links through routers. If a link fails, an available alternate route can still carry it. This small network chooses the shortest connected path. Routing alone does not guarantee reliable delivery or ordering.
Small undirected network, shortest connected route, 20 ms per hop illustrative latency. Each send dispatches a numbered packet; routing is distinct from reliable delivery/acknowledgement. Direct sender–recipient cable is disallowed by distance.
