How does one living pore trade gas for water?
Fit the specimen and set conditions before running.
Turgid guard cells bend apart and open the pore. Carbon dioxide can diffuse through the opening, while a vapor gradient also draws water out.
One dicot stoma with width=10 µm/MPa times turgor over 0–0.8 MPa. Relative conductance and water loss are dimensionless comparisons, not measured rates.
Open a pore at least 5 µm wide while keeping some water-vapor gradient.
Compare gas exchange and water loss through an open pore.
